My first wallet

The first time I wanted to make a wallet out of leather I was 17 years old and wanted to make it for my boyfriend at the time. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I didn’t look up templates or anything, I just looked at my dad’s wallet and said I am going to make it like this. Well I went through the process and had this decent looking wallet. The stitching was a little crooked and the inside pockets weren’t cut quite straight. I was feeling alright about it giving it was my first time. I went to put cards in it and they didn’t fit, everything was too small. I ended up getting the wallet wet, putting the cards in and stretched it out. Don’t make my same mistake and learn a little about wallets before you make one.
Types of wallets
I used to think there was only one kind of wallet which is a bi-fold, but I was very naive. You have the bi-fold of course but there is also a tri-fold which are both similar designs one just is longer to add that third fold in there. The easiest wallet to make out of leather is a money clip wallet. It includes a few pockets sewn on top of each other with a clip on the back to hook it onto a belt or pants. Another popular wallet to make is a women’s wallet. this type requires the most amount of leather and precision. When you get the hang of it you can add some really cool carved designs on the outside of your wallets. The real key to making a wallet is measuring, cutting, and sewing correctly.
